DED showcases its applied economic research initiative to the Ministry of Economy

The Dubai Economic Research Award (DERA) team at the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) showcased its support to the UAE’s economic and scientific research initiatives during a meeting of the DED delegation with H.E. Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, the UAE Minister of Economy.

This is part of a series of field visits by the DERA’s team to the leaders of the UAE economy to promote the Award and gain their support. The DERA awards provide scientific data that supports the nation’s development and achieve the targets of both the UAE and Dubai’s strategic plans.

“The visit is part of an intensive schedule to get the full the support for DERA as it contributes to the UAE scientific research and studies in all economic sectors. The DERA team intends to visit a number of economic bodies and individuals to promote the Award,” said Khalid Al Kassim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development at DED.

 

“We are privileged to have met H.E. Sheikha Lubna and the DERA team will implement the suggestions of Her Excellency in the forthcoming cycles of DERA,” added Al Kassim.

The team, headed by Khalid Al Kassim, comprised Dr. Eesa Bastaki, Award Counsellor and Director of Education and Technology at Dubai Silicon Oasis; Saeed Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director of Economic Studies at DED; and Dr. Magd El-Din Mohamed, Economic Development Advisor at the DED and member of DERA team.

DERA covers 10 economic sectors: tourism, oil & gas, health, education, communications & IT, finance & banking, industry, trade, real estate & construction, and transport & storage. The partners of the second cycle include Zayed University, which has been associated with DERA since the first cycle; Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority; Dubai Investments Company; Dubai Financial Market; Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai Cable Company (DUCAB).
